Phân từ là một trong ngữ ngữ pháp mà các bạn cần phải nắm vững đề hoàn thành tốt bài thi Toeic. Lưu ý vì phân từ V-ing, V-ed có thể đóng vai trò như ADJ nên bài viết sẽ gọi phân từ V-ing, V-ed là ADJ cho các bạn dễ hiểu.
Phân từ V-ed để chỉ cảm xúc do chính chủ thể tự cảm nhận
Ex: Ms.Stuart is extremely (pleasing/pleased) with the process made so far
(Cô Stuart cảm thấy hài lòng với tiến độ được hoàn thành cho đến nay.)
→ Đây là câu hỏi yêu cầu phân biệt giữa hai tính từ Pleasing và Pleased.
Vì chủ ngữ chúng ta có là cô Stuart (người) nên chúng ta chọn pleased để miêu tả cảm xúc của cô Stuart. (Cảm xúc này do cô ta tự cảm nhận)
Lưu ý:
Tính từ đuôi (-ed) mang nghĩa bị động dùng để miêu tả cảm xúc do chính chủ ngữ “tự mình cảm nhận”.
Tính từ đuôi (-ing) mang nghĩa chủ động dùng để miêu tả một vật gây ra cảm xúc cho người khác, hay “làm cho người khác cảm thấy”
Ex: It is my pleasure to inform you about our pleasing progress.
(Chúng tôi rất vui khi được thông báo cho bạn về tiến độ sẽ khiến bạn hài lòng.)
Phân từ V-ing chỉ chủ thể tạo ra cảm xúc cho người khác
Ex: Tea or coffee is a (satisfying/satisfied) conclusion to almost every meal.
(Trà và cà phê là cái kết thõa mãn cho hầu hết các bữa ăn.)
→ Ở đây chúng ta phải chọn satisfying để mô tả danh từ là conclusion (cái kết)
Vì câu này mang nghĩa là “cái kết này khiến cho người khác cảm thấy hài lòng”, vì mang nghĩa chủ động nên dùng tính từ V-ing satisfying mới là đáp án chính xác.
